| Service Above Self is the motto that is uppermost in the daily life of every Rotarian. A well, Rotarians are urged to examine their actions in family, community and business activities in light of The 4-Way Test.
The Declaration of Rotarians in Businesses and Professions was adopted by the RI Council on Legislation in 1989 to provide more guidelines for the high ethical standards called for the in the Object of Rotary.
While there are many benefits to being a Rotarian, there are also responsibilities of membership.
Rotary International Service Above Self Award
Summary
The purpose of this award is to recognize individual Rotarians who have demonstrated exemplary humanitarian service, in any form and at any level, with an emphasis on personal volunteer efforts and active involvement in helping others through Rotary. This is Rotary International's highest honor for individual Rotarians. A maximum of 150 recipients may be selected each year.
Eligible nominees
Rotarians in good standing may be nominated, except the following: district governors, immediate past district governors, district governors-elect, Foundation Trustees, Foundation Trustee-designate, past Foundation Trustee (within two years of having held that position), RI directors, past RI directors (within two years of having held that position), and RI directors-elect. An individual may not nominate him/herself for the award and an individual may only receive the award once. Nominees' service rendered through Rotary must have been on a continuing basis.
Selection process
Only current and immediate past district governors, and current and past RI directors are eligible to nominate candidates for this award. The RI Board of Directors will review all nominations. Nominations must be received on the official nomination form.
