Rotary Basics - Click Here

You, a proud Rotarian, are the cornerstone of Rotary International, a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations and helps build goodwill and peace in the world.

Did you know – that you are not a member of Rotary International? Rotarians are members of their respective clubs. The Rotary Clubs are members of Rotary International.

Did you know - that Rotary is a “bottom up” organization? The individual Rotarian and the Rotary Club are the most important elements of Rotary. Rotary Clubs are autonomous and determine their own service projects based on local needs and the interests and abilities of members.

The purposes of Rotary International (RI) are:

  • to encourage, promote, extend and supervise Rotary throughout the world;
  • to coordinate and generally to direct the activities of RI.

The RI Mission Statement was developed to help clubs in fulfilling the Object of Rotary.

You belong to District 7950, one of about 500 districts in RI. A district is a geographical area in which Rotary clubs are combined for RI administrative purposes. District 7950 covers the area of southeast Massachusetts and the State of Rhode Island. The activities and organization of a Rotary district shall exist solely to help the individual Rotary club advance the Object of Rotary and should not tend to diminish services provided by Rotary clubs and individual Rotarians on the local level.

There is a saying:

¨If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day.

¨If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for life.

So grab your rod and reel and let’s go fishing for some information on Rotary.
