Steve Silverman, a Paul Harris Fellow, and a PAG, has been a member of the
Plymouth, MA Rotary Club since 1987. Over the years, he has served Rotary in
a number of capacities. He has been both the Treasurer and President of his
Rotary Club. Steve has been a member of many district level committees. Currently
he is on Policies & Guidelines, Foundation Seminar, Russian Open World,
the District Conference and District Directory Committees. He has chaired both
the District Directory and the District Conference Committees. He is particularly
honored that the membership elected him as District Treasurer for the past
three terms.
Steve was born in Providence, Rhode Island and grew up in
Lewiston, Maine. He served four years in the Air Force. Steve attended both
Northeastern University and the University of Massachusetts at Boston. He is
a retired jeweler and a gemologist,
educated and registered by the Gemological Institute of America. He operated
his own business in Plymouth for over 26 years. Steve is proud of his two children,
Seth, from Charlottesville,
Virginia, and Kimberly, who is married to Garrett Winslow. His wife, Amy-Jo
Aronson-Silverman is a Paul Harris Fellow herself. She taught at the middle
school level in Rockland, MA for 39 years before retiring in June of 2006.
Amy is a member of the Rockland-Hanson Rotary Club; active along with Steve
in many Rotary endeavors including coordinating the Russian Open World Program
for two years.
In addition to Rotary, Steve has volunteered his time and
talents to other groups. He spent many years as a waterfront director in Maine,
and taught Red Cross swimming, first aid, and boating programs. He was a member
of the finance committees in both Pembroke and Plymouth. He was on the Board
of Directors of the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce for nine years, and served
on the Board of Directors of the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra for five years.
For eighteen years Steve was on the Board of Directors for Temple Beth Jacobs
in Plymouth, and is a past president of that organization.
Steve has been an avid sailor and camper throughout his life.
He holds a private pilot’s license for single engine airplanes. Steve and Amy live in Pembroke,
Massachusetts. In retirement, Steve looks forward to continuing service to
Rotary and traveling in his RV with Amy and their pets.
