Last year, the Scituate Rotary Club helped fund a new vocational program at Lalit Bikash, a government school in Patan, Nepal to teach the girls how to sew. This will provide them with a marketable skill so they can afford to go to high school. The grant paid for the salary of a sewing instructor, a teacher’s aide, fabric, supplies, and the purchase of 8 sewing machines. 100 girls are now learning sewing skills. The Scituate Club is collaborating with the Patan Rotary Club on this project. Because of the earthquake, the school has sustained damage and many of the students’ homes have collapsed. The principal of the school has asked for our support to repair the school, and provide the students with uniforms and school supplies that were lost when their homes collapsed.
